Mrs. Alamu, principal of Community High School in Ahoro-Esiele, Oyo State, was abducted on May 15, 2026, when heavily armed gunmen attacked schools in the Oriire Local Government Area. Several teachers and pupils were also taken during the raid. In a viral video, a visibly shaken Mrs. Alamu is heard repeatedly asking: "Where is my husband? Where is my car?". Soldiers and rescuers around her tried to calm her down, assuring her that everything was fine. Family members later had to break painful news to her – the kidnappers had used her car as an escape vehicle and set it on fire in the forest to destroy evidence. Security sources confirmed the arson was a deliberate move by the bandits to erase fingerprints and tracking clues. The victims were freed on Friday, July 11, 2026, after a coordinated tracking operation by security forces. The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development. Several suspected kidnappers were arrested, while others were neutralised during the operation. Officials maintained that no ransom was paid. After her release, Mrs. Alamu also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agents for securing their freedom. Her husband, Professor Wale Alamu, described the release as "the end of eight weeks of anguish" and said: "For the past eight weeks, I have been living through immense pain. Today, God has taken that pain away". He called on the government to strengthen security around schools to prevent future incidents. The rescued victims are now receiving medical care and trauma counselling.
